There is much to be reclaimed in the telling of Medusa's story.
Too beautiful to be ignored by the Gods, she was violated by Poseidon and then punished by Athena for the very beauty that drew his attention. She was given a monstrous visage as protection and turned any person who dared look upon her to stone. Her image itself has become a symbol of protection and a ward against evil, appearing on ancient coins, pendants and architecture.
